Mee!! Meee!!
I was just thinking - I was reading the website update and it says that we will be able to leave from JFK or Boston...Does anyone know what city they are leaving from yet? I live in NY so JFK will most likely be it for me, but I was wondering where other folks will be departing from... Cheryl |

Hello all!
I'm heading out of JFK with 5 others from NY and 1 from CA. I was talking about the trip last night with one of my friends and I was telling her that one of the guys was saying he was planning on doing a bit of studying on the places we'll be hitting. (sorry can't remember who.... brain glitch) She asked if I knew any of the source materials that were being used. A few of us having read some of the same or different material may help to inspire conversation! (ok we all know I won't get around to it but if you have a suggested reading list Lisa would like it) Hope all is well in where ever you all are at. See ya soon! L&L, April |

One more checking in. California -> JFK -> Ireland! And when work and school settle down, maybe I'll even get some research done....

Cool. Welcome aboard Shadow. This trip is going to SO rock.
So is most everyone flying out of JFK? Cheryl -using her nifty new GLOBAL ezboard account, since I've discovered that there are tons of boards that I wish I had time to regularly visit... |

Re: Who's going home? | ||

And how! Though I confess I'm not sure I'm looking forward to a fifteen-hour flight.... Half my carryon weight's going to go to books or something.
I hope JFK's not as bad (confusing, anyway) as rumor has it. --Anybody a pond-hopper already who's got tips for somebody what's never been out of the country, by the way? |

Re: Stuff to Bring - reply to Shadow

Hmmm..if you can avoid the tons of books you'll probably be a happier camper, at least luggage-carrying wise....Do you mean bringing books with you or buying books there?
I'd recommend with having to heft your luggage daily and pack and unpack, etc that you pack as utilitarian as possible...dont underpack though (socks are your friends)!! I've only been to Europe once before, but here's my two Pfennig...I'd suggest bringing a comfy little pillow (& maybe a jacket that can act as a blanket) for the flight(s) - they ran out of airline pillows on both legs of my trip to Germany and I was NOT a happy camper. Also, european electric outlets are different, so you either need to get a converter thingy (oh yeah am I technical) or bring stuff that runs on batteries... Other than that? Travelers Checks already in Pounds rather than Dollars - this makes it a lot easier when you want to buy stuff (at least it did in Germany)....munchies for the flights...gum to chew during take offs so your ears pop... Also, I'd bet almost everyone going is planning to do this already, but a Trip Journal is a really nifty idea... thats it for now....sorry if any or all of this was super obvious, just tryin to help. Very non-obvious. Thank you! I had no idea about the electric outlets bit-- I'll need to look for a converter for my camera, possibly my alarm clock.
The books remark was mostly a joke. Ireland goes by pounds, eh? I'll remember that. Again, much obliged!
roughly 3 weeks to go!! | ||
|
I cant believe there are only three weeks to go...now I've started the running around going "ohmigods, I need to pick up like 12 things for the trip!! aaaaaaahhhhhh".
Got my tix in the mail the other day!!!! WOO HOO!!! I made my ride arrangements to and from the airport that same day..LOL! I've never used an airport transport service before, so that will be interesting...hopefully I wont be packed in their van like a sardine or something. Next - the dreaded clothes shopping...ewww! getting more & more psyched, Cheryl |

Oh no....I am sure there are lots of orders in for friendly souvenirs who wish to travel back to the states. Maybe, just maybe...if we are really lucky, we might get some volunteers.

Re: Ireland Tour - Who's Going Home...

So, who's going through New York? I'm hoping the security won't be quite as exhausting as I'm being told. I'm getting there four hours ahead of time, just in case. (Well... and that was the only nonstop from here, but, you know, it's actually my foresight. No, really.)
Wow. Went researching stuff today-- there were some incredible photos of Drombeg, the Cliffs, and a bunch of the castles. Even the pictures feel /old/. Living somewhere where nothing's more than maybe a hundred years old, and little of that, the idea of buildings /thousands/ of years old is... awe-inspiring. Research. Such fun!
